Local 9-year Old Creates CANTABZ™ Eco-friendly
Jewelry to Raise Money for Breast Cancer ResearchRoswell resident Parker Salinas’
eco-friendly bracelets made from recycled materials ROSWELL, Ga. – July 21, 2010 – As a seven-year old, Roswell resident Parker
Salinas watched her mother battle breast cancer. Parker knew she wanted to help find a cure for the disease, so that her mom
and no other mother would have to endure that pain. So, she set out to create a business that would donate
money to breast cancer research. About one year later, a friend gave her soda pop tops laced
together for a bookmark and Parker turned it into a bracelet. She wore her bracelet to school and before
long friends were asking her to make one for them. Not wanting the bracelets to take her attention away
from school, her mom would not let her sell them. During
the summer hiatus, Parker asked her mom again for permission to sell the bracelets – this time her mom agreed.
Parker made 10 bracelets and sold them all during her swim meet and a business was born! Parker met with several store owners to show them the CANTABZ bracelets. After she told them
about the use of recycled materials, the interest she’s received from boys and girls all ages, and the desire to donate
money to a charity, store owners were impressed with her concept and offered to help her sell the bracelets. CANTABZ™
bracelets are being sold at the Learning Express in Alpharetta, My StoryHouse Toys and Pigtails and Crewcuts in Roswell. A
rising 4th grader at Sweet Apple Elementary school, Parker is looking forward to raising as much money as possible
to help find a cure for a breast cancer. For more information, contact Parker’s mother – Jules

Even In Today’s Economy, People Are Finding Creative Ways
To Give Back
Published 05/26/10 With unemployment and foreclosures being at a record high, no one can deny that our economy
has been negatively impacted. In the midst of all of this, when destruction hits, many people still rally their support to
help those in need. During crises such as these, the human spirit is reinvented as people pool together
for a common cause, forgetting their own individual struggles and turmoil. Many believe that it is a humanitarian responsibility
to give back, no matter the circumstances. Two of our young entrepreneurs have proven their firm stance on this idea. They’ve
learned early enough how much of an impact “life’s trials” can have, but even in the worst of times they
have found more creative ways to lend a helping hand. When Tamieka Green and Natasha Liburd first started Heart of Décor,
a home staging and interior decorating business, they vowed to host or participate in at least one charitable initiative each
year. In their recent brainstorm to find a creative way to fulfill this personal pledge, these decorators decided to use their
skills to redesign a common living area for a senior care home in the local area. To start, the owners of the senior care
homes had to enter their business’s information into a drawing and a winner was randomly selected for the prize. With
this charitable initiative, Tamieka and Natasha hoped that they would be helping deserving people locally by using their talents
and skills and, after realizing the impact ones surroundings can have, they also hoped to improve the spirits and health of
the residents living in the facility. Now, rewind back two years. Tamieka
and her family visited multiple nursing homes and assisted living facilities in search of a home for her mother who has been
living with Early Onset Alzheimer’s since the age of 49. It was a tiresome and often discouraging fete. While many of
the facilities she visited were staffed with really caring and knowledgeable people, she just could not see past the environment
that would become home to her ill mother. During the process, she realized that their decision was often made within minutes
of entering the senior home. “It reminded me of that feeling that I desired when I was looking to buy a home for myself
just a few years back”, she stated. There was an evident correlation between the two. Whether it
was a house she was going to live in or a home she was going to entrust her mother to, both had to give her that warm, cozy
feeling upon entering. This factor was just as important as the care her mother would receive. “People don’t realize
how much of an impact a beautiful environment has on their decisions when finding a place to live”, Natasha added. These
young entrepreneurs also noted that times have changed and our loved ones are having to be placed in personal care facilities
a lot earlier than before. “Some of us can’t imagine, at my age, being on this draining mission to find a place
to care for their parents”, adds Tamieka. “When you’re forced to make this decision so soon in life, you
naturally consider that you’ll be visiting often and it needs to be a place that is enjoyable for you, as well. When
that is factored in, everything about the facility counts!” After ironing out the details
of the make-over for the winning senior home in Lilburn, GA, Tamieka and Natasha attempted to get funding for the project.
It would only make sense to approach other local business owners and ask them to make small monetary donations towards supplies
and other needed materials for the project. Unfortunately, not all businesses were passionate about the principal of giving
back. Some businesses pointed at the economy for being the reason they could not help, while others did not entertain the
idea at all. Rejected and discouraged, Tamieka and Natasha contemplated withdrawing their commitment to the senior care home.
Fortunately, their determination resurfaced after some time. The ladies went back to the drawing board to tweak their approach
in an effort to obtain the donations they needed to make this charity a success. This time, they contacted everyone they knew,
including friends, family, and business contacts. Before long, things started looking more positive for them. Their desperate
plea soon turned into a gratifying experience. They realized that even though everyone has been affected by the economy in
some way, people still wanted to help. They were not the only ones who embrace that pleasurable feeling of giving back. Some
businesses offered left over materials, heavy discounts, and some even donated their time and skills. As donations started
trickling in, additional support was received from major businesses such as Sherwin Williams, Home Depot, Underpriced Furniture,
and Complete Choice.
In the end, Tamieka and Natasha saw their vision come to fruition.
When asked what the biggest take-away from this experience was, Natasha said “I learned that people are instinctively
resourceful and once motivated, they can look past their personal circumstances to help their neighbors”. Tamieka replied
“My take-away is to not let people or circumstances keep you from doing what you believe is right and despite how things
may look, never give up!” The owner of Elaine’s Personal Care Home, Charmaine Bristol is truly thankful for all
of the time and effort put into this project by Heart of Décor and the wonderful people and businesses that donated.

NEW LAW REQUIRES BUCKLING UP IN TRUCKS
Georgia drivers should mark their calendars
and include a reminder with their Fourth of July party invites…it’s time to buckle up in pickup trucks. By
then, the new state pickup truck safety belt law will be in effect in Georgia. The new law
says if you’re in a truck, buckle up. Although officers statewide will be participating in the regular May enforcement
campaign of Click It or Ticket (CIOT) on Memorial Day weekend, they’ll be looking ahead to
the next holiday weekend, July 4th, when they’ll be concentrating on writing tickets for all unbelted pickup
truck drivers and passengers.
Why now? The
facts are clear. In fatalities of passenger vehicle occupants within the rural areas of Georgia, nearly half involve light
pickup trucks. Among these fatalities, 75-percent are unrestrained. Traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities cost Georgia
more than $7.8 billion and more than 1,500 crash deaths every year. Approximately 100 of these lives could be saved
without spending a dime if pickup truck occupants simply buckled up at the same rate as those in passenger vehicles. The
new pickup truck law will help increase safety belt usage and help save lives in Georgia.
What about farmers? Under the new provisions of the law, there is zero impact to
any agricultural roadway user. The new pickup truck belt law was written so that it included an exemption for every conceivable
agricultural use in the state.
Does this law unfairly target rural
communities? In a word…no. Buckling up in your pickup truck is not an issue of urban-versus-rural
or agriculture-versus-industry. It’s simply an issue of saving lives of some of our most productive citizens.
The rural road crash death rate in Georgia is twice that of urban areas. This is due primarily
to the fact that pickup truck occupants use their seatbelts nearly 15-percent less than their peers riding in passenger vehicles.
When worn correctly, seatbelts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat
light truck occupants by 60-percent and as much as 80-percent in the event of a rollover crash. Simply buckling your seatbelt
can reduce medical and legal expenses, lost wages, lost productivity, high insurance rates and other burdensome costs that
all citizens are forced to share because of rollovers and vehicle crashes. While these monetary costs are staggering,
the biggest beneficiaries are the families and loved ones of pickup truck occupants who will not be killed or severely injured
in a crash because they are wearing their safety belts.
Just remember
that with this new law, there are no more warnings and no more excuses. No matter what you drive or where you drive, if
you don’t want to click it, expect a ticket.

in Masonic Awareness. Completing its fourth year, the Twain Award Competition continues to draw increasing
numbers of submissions while maintaining its high standards of evaluation. Winners must distinguish themselves
by exhibiting energy focused on three stages of work: planning, executing, and reflecting on activities directly related to
enhancing Lodges’ Masonic identity. Historically, the Masonic fraternity emphasizes the importance
of education, self-improvement, good works, and fellowship. Roswell Lodge’s Master, Brad Williams says, “Our group
of brothers is a driving force for Freemasonry as evidenced by our wide range of Masonic educational activities, family and
friend events, and charitable acts.” Lodge leaders laid the foundation for growth through 2008 planning.
“We improved our Lodge facility and made our website http://www.roswell165.com a source to communicate among our members.” Jim Maultsby, Past Master, says, “Roswell Lodge

35 states." Fletcher continues, "As the Twain Award’s reputation grows, Lodges see its
benefit as an incentive to create new ideas and generate more energy among members.” The Twain Award
does not set Lodges against other Lodges, rather, the competition asks Lodges to demonstrate that they have done their best
to produce excellence in and understanding of their Masonic identity. Winners receive a custom designed
award and nationwide recognition through MSANA web and print publications. Fletcher says, "Grand Lodge
meetings frequently provide opportunities to make public presentations to members, who participated in achieving Twain Award
winner status.” "The Masonic fraternity is experiencing renewed public interest and increased exposure in popular
movies, books, and media; the Twain Award helps us to communicate and to clarify the true identity of the Fraternity of Freemasonry
with its roots in education and enlightenment,” says Fletcher. He continues, “Our Fraternity’s
Twain Award generates enthusiasm and builds relevance for Freemasonry in the 21st Century by providing ways for men from diverse
backgrounds and across multiple generations to enjoy fellowship through Masonry." Most historians believe Freemasonry arose
from stonemasons' guilds in the Middle Ages and began to flourish in the 1700's in Europe, the American Colonies and Canada.
Today, North America's Masonic Fraternity provides fellowship for over 1.4 million members. Masons
